The Work Out
A couple weeks ago I took my first look into the cross country scene. I had never seen anything like it before in my life. I would have never got to try it if it hadn’t been for some of my friends from around here that do it. When they would bring their four-wheelers up to the shop to work on them I would make fun of their four-wheelers because they were so skinny and had those big ol’ gaungy looking tires. I personally thought that it looked pretty silly.
Well, at least that’s what I thought until I ran one for myself. I had already understood why they had them so skinny but that was about it. I really hadn’t understood why their tires were so big because any trail I have ever ridden it was all nice with no big ruts or anything. Once I got high-centered a couple times I realized what the big tires were for. I really enjoyed it though. Sure, I got yelled at and of curse got highcentered with my stock tires, but hey, I finished my first cross-country. On the line the promoter came over and was asking if I was sixteen or not. We had been joking around about my mustache that you don’t have to squint to see anymore at the dealer show. Anyway, he came
over and was like yeah, yeah he is. Can’t you see his mustache?!?!
Once when I got high-centered I realized why they had such big front bumpers. Say if you or any tree is in a pro’s way he will just bump you silly to get you or it out of its way. One bad part of it is that there are skid plates, bumpers, visors, and a ton of other things laying all over the track. Or, let’s say that you are silly enough to still run your tail light and then it just might accidently get busted because you get stuck and it gets rammed and the wires in your bulb cross and every time you hit your rear brakes it shorts it out and then all of a sudden it dies and you have to stop for ten minutes to change out the fuse. Not like I would know from experience or anything.
Probably my favorite part of the race was leaving. I was beat. I was asleep five minutes after we left. Dad had always told me that it was the best work out for
motocrossing. Now I believe him!
